Photo by April Gonzales. Anyone who attended the Champion Series and watched the BU v. Nova game will recognize this glorious moment—not for the match result, but for the clear sense of love and camaraderie that unfolded.
After our loss to Villanova, the BU squad stormed the field and surrounded me (Kedzie) in a huddle I won’t ever forget. It was the last game as a Terrier for me, Caroline, Dana and Sarah, and the team understood the sad reality that our time with BUQ was over. I told them how proud I was of them, and reminded them that in sports, results don’t always add up, but regardless of the outcome, they played like the champions they are. We’ve had so much success in the past few years, and losing shouldn’t ever discourage them.
We hugged, cried, and I told them just how much the love they showed me all these years meant. I explained how I had come to BU for track and throughout my first year felt ostracized on the team, and upon severing those ties I found a family with quidditch. They are the most inspiring, talented and good-hearted people I have had the pleasure of meeting in college, and every moment with them has helped shape the man I am today.
Soon after our team huddle, the Minnesota squad came running to hug us. We had become such good friends in such a short time, and it was an honor to play on the same field as them. Between their support, and the help I received from Nova’s Zach D’Amico during the match, I am so proud to be part of the quidditch community.
To everyone I spoke to and met with that day, thank you for giving me my favorite quidditch memory. Stay Fly.

FOR THOSE INTERESTED
AND who happen to be close enough to the twin cities to play, there is a lot of talk going around the Board of starting a summer league.
Light up hoops and beach Quidditch are both important parts of this plan.
99 problems and they’re all snitches.
Our newest member, Steve “Stevie” Rowland tried his hand at seeking. We are so glad he was able to join our team for one of the most fun and competitive tournaments we have ever attended.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY
KEDZIE TELLER is Boston’s most skilled Chaser. He’s one of the quickest players that’ll be at the tournament, and he brilliantly leads his teams fast-paced and strategic offense. KATRINA BOSSOTTI adds a unique defensive touch to the team, strongly defending and only relinquishing her bludger when absolutely necessary so that ball will never be a matter of concern for her teammates. JOE BARKUS wavers between offense and defense, making sharp passes and shots when Kedzie needs him, but also delivering some of the team’s strongest hits. And JOHN BLACKLER has the speed, snitch know-how, and long arms to make for an extremely formidable seeker.
MID-ATLANTIC MONSTARS
Perhaps one of the most stacked teams at the tournament, I’ll be interested to see how these guys work together. Hofstra’s JAYKE ARCHIBALD has incredible speed and passing accuracy. JND’s HEATHER KNOCH is known for being one of the toughest and most accurate beaters in the Northeast. UMD’s PATRICK RARDIN will give the team the physical presence they’ll need when going up against some of the bigger players at the tournament. And UMD’s HARRY GREENHOUSE has one of the most unique seeker strategies I’ve seen - he takes on a wrestling stance, rendering him immovable, and relentlessly pursues the snitch with incredible intensity. Other notable players include Hofstra’s STEVE DICARLO, UMD’s RICKY NELSON, and Badassilisk’s JESSICA KLEIN.
NORTHEAST ALL-STAR
This is another team filled with a large number of skilled players, but there can be too much of a good thing… they actually seem to have too many keepers and seekers, so it’s possible that the better players may not see the playing time they deserve. Ideally, UMD’s JAMES HICKS will be their primary keeper, and UMass’ CHRISTOPHER CHAN will be starting seeker, or at least handle the on-pitch action. Stony Brook’s KOSTANTINOS PLAKAS will likely serve as their leading offensive chaser, as he has some impressive speed and core strength behind him. Other notable players include Badassilisk’s MICHAEL MASON, UMass’ CHARLES FLOWERS and Stony Brook’s DANIEL BROWN.
WESTERN ALL-STARS
These guys have the strongest scoring line in the tournament. They’ve got tremendous and extremely formidable strength in Arizona’s ERIC ANDRES, Skrewts’ KEVIN OELZE and Utah’s BRADY GROVES. And UCLA’s VANESSA GOH will add a nice touch of speed and strategy to their offense. If any team is going to deliver some champion-caliber hits, it’s this one. Other notable players are ASU’s ALEXIS BRISTOR, Lost Boys’ DAN HANSON and Skrewt’s KATHLEEN RICHTER.
VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY
Villanova is missing a large number of their usual line-up, but no one should even remotely count them out or expect anything less of them. They’ve still got ZACH D’AMICO leading the offense with great speed and strategy. MISSY HANLEY is a crucial component in the give-and-go, weave-filled passing strategy that is Nova’s forte. WILLIAM GRECO is a phenomenal seeker, and has great speed and experience on his side. And they’ll be joined by Penn State’s MICHAEL PARADA, whose agility and accuracy will make him a welcome addition to the team.
EMERSON COLLEGE
DAVID FOXX will be Emerson’s answer to the numerous strength-based players that will be in attendance at the Champions Series. He’ll be one of the best keepers there, and will also help lead their defense. But the primary leadership positions will be taken by team captain MAX BLAUSHILD and BENNY NADEAU, who is back in the States and eager to get back on the pitch. He and PABLO CALDERON will control the team’s offense, and hopefully their cohesiveness will help them contend with some of their equally agile competitors.
MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE and UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA will both have very nearly their exact Cup line-ups, and should be feared as a whole. They do have several skilled players within them, but their strength isn’t reliant on individual players - they work well as a unit. The BOSTON B TEAM is, I believe, still a mystery. As far as the Vermont All-Star team, made up of players from UVM and Green Mountain College, goes… Vermont didn’t do particularly well at the Cup, and GMC played in DII and thus has little experience going against the types of players this tournament will feature. So they’ll be interesting to watch.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS!
